The Province, the Government of Canada, Coastal First Nations and Haida Nation are coming together to honour the passing of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples and to celebrate the economic achievements unlocked through digital connectivity investments for coastal and island First Nations.  

The $45.4-million Connected Coast project has reached a new milestone with 87 kilometres of fibre-optic cable stretching across the seabed of Hecate Strait, which will bring high-speed connectivity to Haida Gwaii.

People travelling on forest service roads and some resource roads in Haida Gwaii will be safer and better able to communicate as a result of upcoming changes that standardize two-way radio communications in the Haida Gwaii Natural Resource District.

The possibility of an innovative partnership to improve school and local infrastructure in the Haida Gwaii community of Masset will get a closer look thanks to a $150,000 B.C. government investment.

The contract for the site preparation work for the Queen Charlotte/Haida Gwaii Hospital Replacement project has been awarded to Naikoon Contracting Limited.

Three qualified teams have been shortlisted to participate in the next stage of the competitive selection process to design and build a new hospital in the Village of Queen Charlotte.
