The BC Wildfire Service is sending 267 personnel to Alberta to help with firefighting efforts due to an increasing wildfire threat in that province.

As part of its ongoing commitment to reduce wildfire threats, the B.C. government is providing more than $2.2 million in community resiliency investment grants to support projects in the Kamloops Fire Centre.

Forestry contractors and service providers affected by licensee insolvency will benefit from added financial protection now that the Province has contributed another $250,000 to the Forestry Service Providers Compensation Fund.

The BC Wildfire Service and the Tk’emlups Forestry Development Corporation plan to conduct a six-hectare prescribed burn near Goose Lake, near Lac Le Jeune Road and about nine kilometres south of Kamloops.

Under the BC Rural Dividend Program, the Government of British Columbia is providing $1,206,897 for 13 projects in the Thompson-Nicola region.

People experiencing homelessness in the area will soon have permanent modular homes with around-the-clock staffing and wraparound supports in Spero House, or “house of hope.”

As warmer weather returns to parts of the province affected by last summer’s wildfires, the BC Wildfire Service is advising British Columbians that some hot spots could re-emerge due to what are called “overwintering” fires.

Seven Secwepemc communities and the Province have committed to collaborating on a long-term reconciliation agreement focused on implementing inherent rights, improving community well-being and advancing government-to-government relationships.
