More of Kamloops’ back alleys are going to be turned into art galleries, thanks to more than $19,000 in provincial funding for a work experience project.

Plans to upgrade Kamloops Transit’s full fleet of busses to compressed natural gas (CNG) powered vehicles that come with modern features like Closed Circuit TV (CCTV) received the green light from city council after a successful pilot that showed these busses to perform well in all four seasons while garnering significant savings in operating costs.

Thompson Rivers University (TRU) is providing Aboriginal students a range of programs and services that will support their learning journey. This will include an Aboriginal Awareness Week during March 2017 that will showcase Aboriginal culture and knowledge, Elders-in-residence, cultural learning and mentoring.

Carpentry students at Thompson Rivers University (TRU) will benefit from the purchase of various tools, including new sliding compound mitre saws, routers and survey instruments, as part of a $300,000 investment by the Province in new industry-standard trades equipment.

Stroke is a serious medical emergency, and recognizing the signs and taking immediate action is crucial. To help create awareness around this, the Province has contributed $600,000 to the Heart and Stroke Foundation’s FAST awareness campaign.

Several road resurfacing projects are set to kick off in the Kamloops and Nicola Valley areas, including on Highway 97C in Logan Lake, Highway 8 outside of Merritt and on Douglas Lake and Long Lake Roads.

Effective at noon on June 16, 2016, the Kamloops Fire Centre will be expanding its current Category 2 and Category 3 open burning prohibitions to include a ban on the use of binary exploding targets.

Construction will soon be getting underway on the Vinsulla passing lane and commercial truck pullout project that will improve safety and the flow of traffic on the Yellowhead Highway north of Kamloops.
