British Columbia's Wildfire Management Branch is sending 103 personnel to Washington to aid with a number of fire complexes.

Mining has come back to British Columbia in a big way as the New Afton Mine celebrates its grand opening. The mine is the second new mine to open in as many years in the province.

Effective at noon on Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2012, the current campfire ban in the Vernon and Penticton fire zones will be rescinded due to a decreased risk of wildfires. Campfires will now be permitted throughout the Kamloops Fire Centre.

Students at Thompson Rivers University will benefit from improved and upgraded campus facilities, thanks to $887,000 in capital funding that is part of government's investment in B.C.'s post-secondary infrastructure this year.

British Columbia is welcoming 79 firefighting personnel from the Yukon, Saskatchewan and Ontario to assist B.C. crews with an anticipated increase in fire activity, Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations Minister announced.

Effective at 12 noon on Friday, Aug. 17, all campfires are banned in all areas of the Kamloops Fire Centre except the Clearwater Fire Zone.

People who are homeless or at risk of homelessness in Kamloops will now have greater access to emergency shelter and housing with support services following today's official opening of Emerald Centre.
