Hard hats and heavy machinery will be a common sight over the next year along the Haney Bypass in Maple Ridge, as construction to make this corridor safer starts soon.

Selina Robinson, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing, has released the following statement in response to the City of Maple Ridge enforcing an evacuation order at a homeless camp in Maple Ridge:

Improvements will soon get underway on a number of busy intersections along the Haney Bypass corridor in Maple Ridge, which will significantly improve safety for people travelling through this area.

New street lights will be installed along Highway 7 between Laity Street and 220th Street, providing lighting along a particularly dark section of this busy corridor to improve safety for pedestrians, cyclists and drivers.

BC Housing and the Provincial Rental Housing Corporation have been granted an injunction by the B.C. Supreme Court, to prevent protestors from blocking construction of 55 new supportive homes for homeless people in Maple Ridge.

The Government of British Columbia and BC Housing will resume preparing a site for temporary modular housing for people who are homeless in Maple Ridge after protesters voluntarily vacated the site, prior to the court application to have them removed.

The Government of British Columbia, BC Housing and the Provincial Rental Housing Corporation intend to seek an injunction to ensure construction of temporary modular housing can begin for people who are homeless in Maple Ridge.

The Government of British Columbia is providing $169,500 in grants to help manage the spread of invasive plants in the Fraser Valley, Maple Ridge-Mission MLA Bob D’Eith announced on behalf of Doug Donaldson, Minister of Forests, Lands, Natural Resource Operations and Rural Development.
