Multiculturalism Week in British Columbia is Nov. 13-19, 2016, a time to celebrate B.C.’s rich, cultural mosaic. The Central Vancouver Island Multicultural Society is one of five multicultural champions profiled this week.

As part of Apprenticeship Recognition Week, the B.C. government announced that Vancouver Island University (VIU) will receive more than $50,500 for an innovation pilot that will improve training outcomes and employability for apprentices.

Students, teachers and staff at Cedar Elementary school in the Nanaimo-Ladysmith school district will benefit from $240,000 in provincial School Enhancement Program funding.          

Families in the Nanaimo-Ladysmith school district will benefit from improved transportation services, thanks to $244,630 in funding under the new provincial Student Transportation Fund.

Students, teachers and staff at Wellington Secondary – home to one of the premier jazz academies in Western Canada – are relishing in their new state-of-the-art school following a $24.5-million seismic mitigation project to upgrade the facility.

Trades students at Vancouver Island University (VIU) will benefit from hands-on learning opportunities through a new investment of $187,071 in industry-standard trades-training equipment, as well as $4.85 million in continued support for 1,366 trades seats.
