A peak in the North Shore Mountains is being named in honour of a long-time leader of British Columbia’s search and rescue community and commemorates his work as an advocate for backcountry safety.

Up to 200 people in Greater Vancouver are receiving the training they need for jobs in their communities, thanks to the federal-provincial partnership under the Canada-B.C. Job Fund Agreement.

The B.C. government is funding 45 extreme weather shelter spaces across North Vancouver this winter to help people whose health and safety may be threatened by cold, wet weather.

This year’s CLICK for Babies Campaign, a program aimed at raising awareness about shaken baby syndrome through the distribution of tiny, knitted purple hats, has set a record of 13,000 caps – the  highest number ever donated by volunteer knitters around British Columbia.

Students, teachers and staff at Cleveland Elementary school in the North Vancouver school district will benefit from $295,770 in provincial School Enhancement Program funding.          

Families in the North Vancouver school district will benefit from improved transportation services, thanks to $40,566 in funding under the new provincial Student Transportation Fund.

A group of kindergarten students who will be the graduating class of 2029 are B.C.’s first students whose education will be entirely under B.C.’s new curriculum.

Women, children, and any family members who are affected by domestic violence now have a safe, supportive place to go for help, with a specialized team focussed on their protection and transition to safety.

Construction of the new Philip Avenue overpass south of West 1st Street in North Vancouver is now complete and will open to vehicle and pedestrian traffic on July 6.
