Work is underway to ensure Oliver-area orchards, wineries and farms have a stable irrigation system to help the region’s agriculture community continue to support B.C.’s economy and food security.

The B.C. government has committed $5 million to reroute the Town of Oliver’s agricultural irrigation system so the region’s fruit, vegetable and crop economy has the stability to grow.

The South Okanagan is brimming with local flavours from a variety of companies, including the Howling Moon Cider House in Oliver and Bordertown Vineyards and Estate Winery in Osoyoos.

The B.C. government’s popular seven-year tree fruit replant program will now assist even more growers with an additional $1 million in funding over the duration of the program, Boundary-Similkameen MLA Linda Larson and Penticton MLA Dan Ashton announced.

Local food producer Tracy Lydiatt, owner of Great Bear Enterprises, has created a gluten-free, vegan, organic cookie product.
