Effective at noon on Sept. 18, 2017, the BC Wildfire Service has rescinded the campfire prohibition that was in effect within the Coastal Fire Centre’s jurisdiction. The use of tiki torches (and similar kinds of torches), outdoor stoves, gas stoves and other portable campfire equipment is also now permitted.

The BC Wildfire Service is fully prepared to respond quickly to any wildfire activity in the Coastal Fire Centre. Although some resources are being deployed to the Interior to help fight the large fires there, sufficient firefighters and equipment will remain in the region to maintain a first response capability locally.

Effective at noon on Thursday, July 6, 2017, all open fires (including campfires) will be prohibited throughout the Coastal Fire Centre’s jurisdiction, with the exception of Haida Gwaii and the area known as the “Fog Zone”.

Pacific Marine Drive has been reopened to vehicle traffic between Lake Cowichan and Port Renfrew. Fire crews have removed danger trees and cleared away debris related to the Spring Road/Lizard Lake along this route.

Reduced fire activity on the Tsulquate Creek fire near Port Hardy has resulted in the rescinding of the Evacuation Alert by the District of Port Hardy upon the recommendation of the BC Wildfire Service.

Effective at noon on Thursday, July 2, 2015, the existing campfire ban in the Coastal Fire Centre will be expanded to include all areas within the fire centrs's jurisdiction, with the exception of Haida Gwaii and the area known as the "Fog Zone".
