Using an innovative approach, the Hupacasath First Nation in Port Alberni is benefiting from nearly $112,000 in funding from the B.C. government as part of the Indigenous Forest Bioeconomy Program.

Daytime travel along Highway 4 will be faster and easier this summer now that top-of-the-hour closures have been eliminated on Kennedy Hill.

Construction on Highway 4 at Kennedy Hill has reached a major milestone, ending extended daily closures and saving commuters time while travelling along the corridor.

Following consultation with local residents, tourism operators and local businesses, the daytime closure schedule will remain in place for the Highway 4 – Kennedy Hill Improvement Project.

Construction is underway to expand the emergency department at West Coast General Hospital to support improvements to patient care and privacy for people in the region.

After hearing strong support from local residents, emergency services and tourism companies, daytime closure windows will continue on the Highway 4 Kennedy Hill improvement project.

Starting July 6, 2021, night-time construction is resuming on the Highway 4 Kennedy Hill improvement project to avoid extended midday closures.
