As part of its ongoing commitment to reduce wildfire threats, the B.C. government is providing more than $53,000 in community resiliency investment grants to support projects on the Sunshine Coast.

Under the BC Rural Dividend Program, the Government of British Columbia is providing $204,260 to Community Futures Sunshine Coast, the City of Powell River, Tla’amin First Nation and the District of Sechelt for four projects on the Sunshine Coast.

A stretch of Highway 101, between Powell River and Lund, will be widened and resurfaced to make this drive easier and safer for people travelling the corridor.

Over the first year of implementing its treaty, the Tla’amin Nation has embraced change and plenty of it.

The Province is investing $175,000 to support marketing of the Sunshine Coast as a tourism destination.

Skilled trades students in two regional school districts will benefit from a three-year, $15-million investment by the British Columbia government to support youth trades programs with the purchase of new trades training equipment.

Powell River Airport will receive $1.03 million in funding from the B.C. Air Access Program for runway improvements, increasing safety and accessibility at the airport.

Powell River will receive $183,869 in BikeBC funding this year for cycling infrastructure improvements in the community.

The world is changing and B.C. students need to be ready to adapt to the careers of tomorrow. Students in the Powell River School District will be prepared thanks to $22,500 in provincial funding awarded to the district, helping to connect kids with opportunities in skilled trades and tech training.
