People of all ages and abilities in Powell River will have more opportunities to get involved in fun, community-based sport programs during the coming year through the joint federal-provincial BC Sport Participation Program (BCSPP).

Drivers can look forward to smoother travelling along Highway 101 on the Sunshine Coast as the ministry prepares to resurface a stretch of highway between Powell River and Lund.

A new $15 fee is being applied to two recreation sites in the Powell River area that are being upgraded to fee-for-service sites to provide better camping services.

As part of its ongoing commitment to reduce wildfire threats, the B.C. government is providing more than $53,000 in community resiliency investment grants to support projects on the Sunshine Coast.

Under the BC Rural Dividend Program, the Government of British Columbia is providing $204,260 to Community Futures Sunshine Coast, the City of Powell River, Tla’amin First Nation and the District of Sechelt for four projects on the Sunshine Coast.

A stretch of Highway 101, between Powell River and Lund, will be widened and resurfaced to make this drive easier and safer for people travelling the corridor.

Over the first year of implementing its treaty, the Tla’amin Nation has embraced change and plenty of it.
