BC Wildfire Service crews are taking advantage of the recent rain and cooler temperatures to continue their attack on four fires of note in the Peace region – the Beatton Airport Road, Siphon Creek, Carter Road and Halfway River fires.

Recent warm, dry conditions have led to increased fire activity in the Prince George Fire Centre. Scattered showers are forecasted for this weekend which should aid fire suppression efforts.

Two wildfires in the Prince George Fire Centre that were previously identified as the Beatton Airport Road fire and the Stoddart Road fire have combined to become a single fire. It is now referred to simply as the Beatton Airport Road fire (G80046).

The BC Coroners Service has confirmed the identity of a man who died in a residential structure fire in Vanderhoof on April 23, 2016.

With an increase of fire activity in the Prince George Fire Centre, the BC Wildfire Service is urging the public to do their part to prevent wildfires.

The electrical and power engineering programs at the College of New Caledonia (CNC) will receive a funding boost of $151,600 from the provincial government to support in-demand occupations that support the provincial economy.

By early fall, a dedicated left turn traffic signal will be installed at the intersection of Vance and Cowart Roads and Highway 16 in Prince George, as well as the intersection of Ferry Avenue and Highway 16, west of Highway 97, improving safety for motorists at these locations.

Effective at noon on Wednesday, April 27, 2016, Category 3 open fires will once again be allowed in some southern sections of the Prince George Fire Centre’s jurisdiction. However, Category 2 open burning remains restricted throughout the entire Prince George Fire Centre.

The BC Coroners Service has confirmed the identity of a man and woman who died following an interaction with the RCMP at Granisle on April 21, 2016.
