Ravi Kahlon, Minister of Housing, has released the following statement in response to the City of Prince George’s decision to decamp individuals at Millennium Park:

People in need of affordable housing in Prince George will soon have access to 36 new rental homes with the purchase of a new building at 605 Quebec St.

People experiencing a mental-health or substance-use crisis will soon have access to a new community-led crisis response team.

Safe and secure homes with supports for as many as 30 people experiencing homelessness in Prince George are coming soon.

British Columbia’s clean fuel goals and vision of a low-carbon future have come into sharper focus now that Canada’s first stand-alone renewable diesel refinery has completed construction and will soon begin production.

The Province and the City of Prince George have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) that formalizes their commitment to work together to better support people who are unhoused and sheltering in encampments and to help prevent encampments.

People living with complex mental-health and addiction challenges in Prince George will be connected to health-care supports as the Province adds complex-care housing services in the region.

More people will be able to train for jobs as professional truck drivers in northern B.C. through a Community and Employer Partnerships (CEP) project funded by the Province.
