As of noon on Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2014, the area with restricted access around the Mt. McAllister wildfire is being expanded to ensure the safety of the public and firefighting personnel.

Despite cooler temperatures and scattered showers in some areas of the Prince George Fire Centre, the fire danger rating still ranges from “high” to “extreme”.

Typically at this time of year, the Prince George Fire Centre begins to experience a fall trend of rain and cooling temperatures, but that is not happening so far this year.

The Prince George Fire Centre has issued an area restriction for the forested area around the Tenakihi-Mesilinka fire, effective at 2 p.m. Pacific Time on Friday, August 1, 2014.

The Euchiniko Lakes wildfire, located approximately 125 kilometres west of Quesnel is now estimated at 1,600 hectares in size.

Effective at noon Pacific Time on Friday, July 11, 2014, open fires will be prohibited in the Prince George Fire Centre, with the exception of the Fort Nelson Fire Zone, to help prevent human-caused wildfires and protect public safety.

Prince George Fire Centre personnel have responded to 20 new fires in the past 48 hours, 15 of which were caused by lightning.
