Effective at noon on Aug. 2, 2013, all open fires are prohibited within southern and western parts of the Prince George Fire Centre's jurisdiction to help prevent human-caused wildfires.

An abandoned campfire at the west end of Summit Lake started a small wildfire Sunday evening. Quick action by members of the public kept the fire small, and an initial attack crew from the Wildfire Management Branch extinguished the fire.

With continued warm and dry conditions forecasted for areas west of the Rockies, fire danger ratings in the Prince George Fire Centre are expected to increase.

The Wildfire Management Branch is reminding the public to be vigilant when conducting outdoor burns and to take precautions when enjoying the backcountry.

Effective at 4 p.m. on May 27, open fires will once again be permitted throughout the Prince George Fire Centre's jurisdiction, due to a decreased risk of wildfire.

Effective noon on Thursday, May 9, 2013, Category 2 open fires and the use of fireworks will be prohibited in the Fort St. John and Dawson Creek fire zones.

The Prince George Fire Centre is asking the public to exercise caution with any outdoor burning activities this spring.
