Young people considering what skills they will need for tomorrow’s in-demand occupations will have an opportunity for interactive, hands-on experience at WorkBC’s Find Your Fit tour stop in Quesnel as part of Billy Barker Days festivities.

The Quesnel and District Chamber of Commerce is putting on a trade show May 8-10 to benefit local economic development, and thanks to nearly $11,000 in provincial Job Creation Partnership funding, one person will get event planning and office administration work experience.

Twelve Aboriginal learners in the Quesnel area are brushing up on their skills as they prepare to enter the trades with support from a community-based education and training partnership between the College of New Caledonia and the Lhtako Dene Nation.

The College of New Caledonia (CNC) has received $150,000 from the Province under B.C.'s Skills for Jobs Blueprint to provide job skills training and retraining opportunities for workers affected by the closure of the Canfor sawmill in Quesnel.

More new immigrants, refugees and their families living in Quesnel will have access to a free English-language tutoring program, thanks to new funding of $7,500.
