There is a lot of buzz at Roderick Haig-Brown Park and no, it's not bees. Excavators and saws working on a multi-year construction project have left many new facilities, and the first of thousands of families have descended on the park to view the spawning salmon.

Families visiting Roderick Haig-Brown Provincial Park, home to one of the largest sockeye salmon runs in North America, will notice something else this year as construction begins on a multi-year project to enhance visitor experiences.

Twenty-one members of the Korean Forest Service will arrive in Salmon Arm on Oct. 2 to learn wildfire investigation techniques from B.C.'s expert firefighters.

Travellers are advised the Scotch Creek Forest Service Road (FSR) will be temporarily closed at the 12.5-kilometre marker from Monday, Sept. 16 to Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2013, due to a bridge upgrade.

A group of 25 members of the Korean Forest Service have arrived in Salmon Arm to learn wildfire investigation techniques and take advantage of the expertise of B.C.'s Wildfire Management Branch crews.

The B.C. government recently presented Peterson Family Farm with a Century Farm Award for the contributions the family has made to B.C.'s agriculture industry and economy over the past one hundred years. Minister of Agriculture Norm Letnick commended the family for this impressive milestone.

The Salmon Arm Fair turns 115 this year, and to celebrate the occasion the government of British Columbia presented the Salmon Arm and Shuswap Lake Agricultural Association with a Century Farm Award.

As part of a Fire Investigation training course, Wildfire Management Branch will be conducting a series of small controlled burns during the week of Oct. 3 just northeast of Silver Creek.

Earlier this month, provincial and federal agencies joined forces to inspect and patrol Shuswap Lake for compliance with B.C.'s boating and fishing regulations.
