Effective at noon on Monday, Aug. 22, 2016, campfires and Category 3 open fires are once again allowed in all areas of the Northwest Fire Centre.

Effective at noon on Friday, Aug. 19, 2016, campfires and other types of open burning will be prohibited in some areas of the Northwest Fire Centre to help prevent human-caused wildfires and protect public safety.

Work will soon be underway on a project to replace the Kathlyn Creek culvert with a bridge on Highway 16 near Smithers.

This weekend’s weather forecast is calling for a warming and drying trend and above-seasonal temperatures in northern areas of the province, so the BC Wildfire Service is encouraging members of the public to exercise caution with any campfires and outdoor burning.

The Highway 16 transportation symposium held in Smithers resulted in a successful and constructive discussion between over 90 community participants to address transportation challenges and explore opportunities to improve services.

Effective at noon on Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2015, open burning will once again be permitted throughout the Northwest Fire Centre’s jurisdiction.
