The Eutsuk Lake wildfire continues to burn actively and smoke from this fire may be visible in Prince George, Quesnel, Williams Lake and surrounding areas.

Smoke from a large wildfire burning in Tweedsmuir North Provincial Park may be visible in Prince George, Quesnel, Kenney Dam and surrounding areas.

The Province continues to expand forest opportunities for individuals, groups and First Nations with the offering of a new woodlot licence near Smithers.

The Northwest Fire Centre has responded to five new fires this week, as warm and dry weather continues throughout the region.

Effective at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2013, all campfires and most open fires will be permitted across the Northwest Fire Centre's jurisdiction.

Further to the campfire ban that came into effect Tuesday, Aug. 6, effective at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 9 2013, the following are exempted as noted:

Effective at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2013, all open burning (including campfires) will be prohibited in the Nadina, Bulkley and Skeena Fire Zones, with the exception of the former North Coast Forest District within the Northwest Fire Centre's jurisdiction to help prevent human-caused wildfires and protect public safety.

Effective at noon on Friday, Aug. 2, 2013, all open fires are prohibited within the Northwest Fire Centre's jurisdiction to help prevent human-caused wildfires. The prohibition will be in place until Sept. 15, 2013, or until the public is otherwise notified.

The Northwest Fire Centre has responded to eight new fires this week, five of which were human-caused and therefore preventable. With significant lightning in the region yesterday, more fires are anticipated.

Off-road vehicle users are being encouraged to help protect critical wildlife habitat by staying out of sensitive ecosystems such as wetlands, streams, grasslands and alpine areas, or risk enforcement actions.
