The B.C. government has provided more than $1.5 million in grants to 11 local governments and First Nations in the Northwest Fire Centre to support wildfire risk reduction initiatives and help keep communities safe.

A band of lightning that moved through the Northwest Fire Centre the afternoon of Wednesday, June 26, started several new wildfires in the region.

The rehabilitation of land impacted by the suppression of wildfires in 2018 is underway throughout the Northwest Fire Centre, with work being done at 12 of the most significant fire sites.

One of the areas hit hardest by this year’s wildfires has reached a milestone in its recovery as a result of close collaboration between the B.C. government and the Gitxsan First Nation.

The BC Wildfire Service continues to battle wildfires within the Northwest Fire Centre.

There are currently 11 active wildfires in the Bulkley Fire Zone of the Northwest Fire Centre and 23 active wildfires within the Cassiar Fire Zone. Details about some of these fires are provided below.

The BC Wildfire Service is currently responding to multiple wildfires in the Bulkley Fire Zone of the Northwest Fire Centre, including the Torkelsen Lake wildfire.

Under the BC Rural Dividend Program, the Government of British Columbia is providing $1.76 million for 11 projects in northern B.C., Doug Donaldson, Minister of Forests, Lands, Natural Resource Operations and Rural Development, announced today.

The BC Wildfire Service is planning to conduct two prescribed burns in the Northwest Fire Centre beginning on April 19, weather permitting.
