From the hot summers of Artemisa, Cuba to the cold winters in Smithers, B.C., Latin Grammy and Juno award winning singer-songwriter Alex Cuba has lived in two different countries. However, he says nothing beats his adopted hometown of Smithers and Northern British Columbia at this time of year.

Beginning April 24, 2015, ICBC claims staff and operations will be located at the Smithers Service BC Centre located at 1020 Murray St. This change will create a 'one-stop shop' for ICBC and many government services in Smithers.

Effective at 4 p.m. on Sept. 5, 2014, Category 2 and Category 3 open burning will once again be allowed throughout the Northwest Fire Centre.

Wildfire Management Branch crews from the Northwest Fire Centre have responded to eight new fires in the last 24 hours in the Smithers, Terrace, Hazleton and Telkwa areas.

The fire danger rating in the Northwest Fire Centre currently ranges from “high” to “extreme”. Dry conditions are expected to continue and no substantial rainfall is in the forecast.
