Crews are working to contain the China Nose wildfire, currently burning about 15 kilometres southeast of Houston.

Effective at 4 p.m. on Aug. 12, 2014, campfires and open burning will be prohibited in some areas of the Northwest Fire Centre to help prevent human-caused wildfires and protect public safety.

People living between the communities of Smithers and Vanderhoof may notice heavy smoke in the air as a result of the Chelaslie River wildfire.

Effective at 4 p.m. on Friday, July 18, 2014, campfires will once again be permitted throughout the Northwest Fire Centre's jurisdiction.

The Northwest Fire Centre is encouraging the public to use caution when performing any outdoor burning, due to gusty winds and a continued drying trend in the forecast.

The Northwest Fire Centre has responded to five new fires this week, as warm and dry weather continues throughout the region.

Effective at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2013, all campfires and most open fires will be permitted across the Northwest Fire Centre's jurisdiction.

Further to the campfire ban that came into effect Tuesday, Aug. 6, effective at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 9 2013, the following are exempted as noted:

Effective at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2013, all open burning (including campfires) will be prohibited in the Nadina, Bulkley and Skeena Fire Zones, with the exception of the former North Coast Forest District within the Northwest Fire Centre's jurisdiction to help prevent human-caused wildfires and protect public safety.

Effective at noon on Friday, Aug. 2, 2013, all open fires are prohibited within the Northwest Fire Centre's jurisdiction to help prevent human-caused wildfires. The prohibition will be in place until Sept. 15, 2013, or until the public is otherwise notified.
