Effective at noon on Wednesday, Aug. 23, 2017, campfires will once again be allowed in some areas of the Northwest Fire Centre: the Skeena Stikine Forest District (the Cassiar Fire Zone and Bulkley Fire Zone) and the Coast Mountain Forest District (the Skeena Fire Zone).

Hot and dry weather is in the forecast for the northwest part of the province, so the BC Wildfire Service is reminding the public that all open burning, including campfires, remains prohibited in the entire Northwest Fire Centre.

Effective at 8 a.m. on Monday, July 10, 2017, all open fires (including campfires) will be prohibited throughout the Northwest Fire Centre’s jurisdiction to help prevent human-caused wildfires and protect public safety.

The BC Wildfire Service is responding to five new wildfires about 32 kilometres northeast of Granisle and 125 kilometres northwest of Fort St. James.

Given current and predicted weather conditions within the Northwest Fire Centre’s jurisdiction, the BC Wildfire Service is encouraging members of the public and industry personnel to exercise caution when doing any outdoor burning.

The BC Wildfire Service is planning a controlled burn near the base of Mount Horetsky, approximately 39 kilometres northwest of Fort Babine. The burn will only take place if weather conditions permit and may begin as early as May 28, 2017.

The BC Wildfire Service is planning to conduct two prescribed burns in the Northwest Fire Centre beginning on April 19, weather permitting.

Given current and predicted weather conditions, the BC Wildfire Service is encouraging members of the public and industry personnel to exercise caution when doing any outdoor burning.
