Visitors will soon have more camping opportunities in the Squamish area with the completion of 52 new campsites in the Sea-to-Sky corridor, in time for the upcoming 2017 camping season.

Building on the economic benefits and jobs created by getting to yes on major projects and provincial investments in infrastructure, West Vancouver-Sea to Sky MLA Jordan Sturdy announced immediate investments and a long-term action plan outlined in B.C.’s rural economic development strategy that will create jobs and economic opportunities in West Vancouver-Sea to Sky.

The B.C. government is funding 15 extreme weather shelter spaces in Squamish this winter to help people whose health and safety may be threatened by cold, wet weather.

Students, teachers and staff at Brackendale Elementary school in the Sea to Sky school district will benefit from $200,000 in provincial School Enhancement Program funding.                             

Families in the Sea to Sky school district will benefit from improved transportation services, thanks to $265,534 in funding under the new provincial Student Transportation Fund.

Plans are in motion to explore improved transit service for the Sea to Sky corridor – a growing region that the B.C. government has identified as a priority area for expansion.

BC Wildfire Service crews will be conducting a series of controlled pile burns in the Squamish area in October to remove logging debris and reduce the risk of wildfires in the area.

Recreational users are advised that the Pebble Creek/Keyhole Falls hot springs trail is closed until further notice to all visitors, due to the presence in the area of numerous aggressive black bears and grizzly bears with cubs.

British Columbians are invited to comment on a proposed amendment to a scenic-area boundary on Crown land in the Sea to Sky Natural Resource District until July 20, 2016.
