As the City of Surrey continues to grow, Premier Christy Clark has announced funding for up to 2,700 new student spaces for Surrey schools to provide students with new classrooms and help tackle the rapidly growing need for schools in the fastest growing community in B.C.

More police teams and prosecutors dedicated to combating gang violence will be on the ground and new curbs on gang crime and illegal guns will soon be in place. These are among a dozen new and expanded initiatives that are part of a more than $23-million boost to B.C.’s Guns and Gangs Strategy.

The Honourable Amarjeet Sohi, Minister of Infrastructure and Communities was in Surrey to announce over $73.3 million in funding from the federal Gas Tax Fund for 57 capital and capacity building projects in communities across British Columbia.

Binnie Construction Services Ltd. of Surrey took the top award for Construction Management and Supervision at the 12th annual Deputy Minister’s Consulting Engineers Awards, for its exceptional work on the Big White passing lane and intersection improvements on Highway 33.

To help ensure that criminals will find no safe haven in British Columbia, government is developing new standards that will help B.C.’s police agencies build on their continued successful anti-gang disruption efforts.

The B.C. government will provide approximately $400,000 in funding to Lookout Emergency Aid Society to operate a new temporary winter shelter in Surrey.
