Residents of the Regional District of Kitimat-Stikine will be growing more food in 2017 as the Regional District and the City of Terrace begin their “Grow Local Training and Engagement” project.

Work clothes? Check. Books? Check. Tools? Check. A place to stay? Check. Students in the Coast Mountains School District are packing their bags and traveling to other B.C. communities for enhanced skills, technical, and trades training opportunities thanks to $5,000 for the school district from the Province’s Skills Training Access Grant.

The B.C. government has distributed $116,167 in compensation for municipal property taxes to the City of Terrace.

Comments are being accepted until Feb. 28, 2017, on proposed amendments to the 2006 Land Use Objectives Order in the Kiteen (26,000 hectares) and Skeena Islands (4,500 hectares) portions of the Kalum Sustainable Resource Management Plan (SRMP) area in northwestern B.C.

With support from B.C.’s First Nations Clean Energy Business Fund, Kitselas First Nation is pursuing private power purchase agreement partnerships with major project proponents in northwest British Columbia. These partnerships will support the exploratory drilling stage for the proposed Kitselas Geothermal Power Generation Project.

Students, teachers and staff at six schools in the Coast Mountains school district will benefit from $569,170 in provincial School Enhancement Program funding.

The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure will be replacing the Ksi Sii Aks (Tseax) Bridge on Highway 113.
