Students are getting set for success in the skilled trades with the opening of the newly renovated, state-of-the-art House of Cedar trades training facility at Coast Mountain College.

Students at Northwest Community College (NWCC) will benefit from a government investment of $187,000 toward new industry-standard trades-training equipment, such as survey equipment for the carpentry program.

Students in northwest British Columbia will be better equipped for the well-paying, jobs of today and tomorrow as a result of an $18.4-million investment to renew trades training facilities at Northwest Community College.

An additional 32 trades training seats at Northwest Community College will give students access to training in a variety of in-demand occupations that support a range of sectors that are important to the provincial economy.

Northwest Community College (NWCC) is receiving $269,850 toward the purchase of new training equipment that will prepare health-care and trades students with the skills needed to succeed in the workforce.

While growing up, Sik-e-dakh (Glen Vowell Band) member Kateleen Prevost didn’t like to cook and that made her the oddball in a family where everyone liked to be in the kitchen. One day she said, “I’m going to learn how to cook, you guys, and show you how it’s done.”

For the first time on a British Columbia public post-secondary campus, work camp-style housing will be used to help meet the growing demand for student residences, providing valuable learning opportunities at the same time.
