With more winter weather predicted for the Lower Mainland over the weekend, the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure is further strengthening its strategy for maintaining safe travel over the Alex Fraser Bridge.

Bridge crews are on-site and continue their dedicated work to clear and monitor both the Alex Fraser Bridge and the Port Mann Bridge at this hour.

Crews continued their work to monitor and clear the Port Mann and Alex Fraser bridges overnight ahead of a second possible snowfall.

With the holiday season in full swing, the Government of B.C. is reminding British Columbians to celebrate safely and make good decisions when riding in limousines, including limo buses, during celebrations.

Metro Vancouver drivers are being advised that work is well underway to prepare the Alex Fraser and Port Mann bridges for the snowfall expected this afternoon.

Patrick Livolsi, Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure assistant deputy minister and professional engineer, has issued the following statement regarding the recent snowfall on the Lower Mainland and reports of vehicle damage on the Alex Fraser and the Port Mann bridges:

Government is moving forward to no longer insure the high-end luxury car rate class (cars worth $150,000 and over) so that the broader ratepayer is not subsidizing these cars. The owners of these cars will have to go to private insurance instead.

A new commemorative licence plate is available in British Columbia for recipients of the Memorial Cross.
