As the Thompson-Okanagan starts to recover from high water levels and spring flooding, provincial government staff are assisting local governments, businesses and residents with recovery efforts.

A small portion of the Mabel Lake Forest Service Road east of Mabel Lake will be temporarily closed to all vehicle traffic until further notice, due to concerns about the stability of the roadbed in the area and the need to ensure public safety.

The BC Wildfire Service will be conducting six prescribed burns in the Vernon area from Sept. 8-9, 2016. None of these controlled fires will be larger than 10 metres by 10 metres, but smoke may be visible from Vernon, Highway 97, Highway 97a and Highway 6.

The public is advised that the Scotch Creek Forest Service Road will be temporarily closed at the nine-kilometre mark from Monday, July 18 to Friday July 22, 2016, to allow for road upgrades.

Okanagan Shuswap District Natural Resource Officers are asking for the public’s help in finding the person or persons responsible for tampering with culverts at Dale Lake, causing a debris flood down Cooke Creek east of Enderby in May 2014.

The public is advised that the Scotch Creek Forest Service Road will be temporarily closed from Monday, Aug. 17 to Sunday, Aug. 23, 2015, due to road work.

A series of ecosystem restoration burns is being planned for the Satellite Hill and South Fork areas east of Vernon.

A prescribed burning program is being planned in the South Fork area east of Vernon between Sept. 17 and Oct. 31, 2014, weather conditions permitting.
