It’s Women’s History Month — a time to look back and celebrate the struggles and successes of the women who have come before us, and to remember the first women to stand up and make a change.

Watching a young person struggle with mental health or addictions challenges is a parent’s worst nightmare. We all want to see our children thrive. And yet when they need help, families in crisis have had to struggle to navigate a fragmented system that doesn’t get their kids the care they need. There are waitlists to navigate, expensive bills to pay and doors that seemingly lead nowhere.

Tomorrow is the first day of Gender Equality Week in Canada — a week driven by a vision where people of all genders and gender expressions are treated fairly and have equal access to opportunities. 

This spring, Mike Farnworth, Minister of Public Safety and Solicitor General, and I took the first steps to making cellphone billing and contracts less confusing and easier to understand for people in B.C.

The completion of the What We Heard report on the Chinese Canadian Museum has me reflecting on my own family’s history in this country.

British Columbia’s forest industry is facing difficult times. In the Interior, the end of the pine beetle cut, lower prices for lumber, and back-to-back catastrophic wildfire seasons have led to a number of sawmill closures. This has created hardship for workers and uncertainty for the communities that depend on forestry for their livelihoods.

Pride brings communities together throughout our province in honour and celebration of the LGBTQ2S+ community’s hard-fought journey to attain the human rights and freedoms so many others take for granted.

This is an exciting time for British Columbians. Every day, our government focuses on improving the lives of the people of our province – your well-being, prosperity, rights and the services you rely on.

Oceans are vital to the health of the world. For British Columbia, coastal waters are also vital to our culture and our economy. On World Oceans Day, we celebrate those working to protect the waters that are so important to us all. 

It’s a story that I’ve heard repeatedly: a parent, usually a mother, having to give up their career because it makes more sense to stay home than to pay sky-high child care fees.
