George Heyman, Minister of Environment and Climate Change Strategy, and Ravi Kahlon, Minister of Jobs, Economic Recovery and Innovation, have issued the following statement in response to Vancouver International Airport’s (YVR) new Roadmap to Net Zero Carbon 2030 plan:

A new provincial park on southern Vancouver Island will soon be established to protect a vital ecosystem important to the Cowichan people, honouring Indigenous cultural and spiritual history, and aiding in the conservation of threatened species.

Millions of people headed out to B.C.’s provincial parks this year to experience the very best that nature has to offer.

The Province and BC Hydro have released recommendations from Phase 2 of the BC Hydro Review to get more electric vehicles on the road.

Electric-vehicle batteries, mattresses, single-use fuel canisters and fire extinguishers are among the products that will be eligible for provincewide recycling as part of a five-year plan to advance recycling in British Columbia.

Communities throughout the province are restoring watersheds and wetlands to protect aquatic ecosystems and promote healthier environments for British Columbians and wildlife.

Three new projects, in partnership with coastal Indigenous Nations, will target marine debris along B.C.’s shoreline, including more remote areas in Haida Gwaii and the Discovery Islands.  

British Columbia’s network of public electric vehicle (EV) fast-charging stations is expanding with the opening of six new stations in the Capital Regional District, making it easier for people travelling highways 1 and 17 to charge up their EVs.
