The Province is partnering with Futurpreneur Canada and Prince Rupert LNG to provide $356,000 to teach Indigenous and other rural youth valuable business skills.

To celebrate the second annual Red Tape Reduction Day, the Province is highlighting the elimination of over 1,000 regulatory requirements and showcasing progress on more than 200 red-tape reduction initiatives.

The Province has proclaimed Feb. 20-24, 2017, Chamber of Commerce Week in recognition of the unwavering commitment of chambers of commerce and boards of trade throughout B.C. in supporting local businesses, boosting economic development and creating jobs.

Three new agreements involving eight local governments have been reached in the Kootenays, allowing small businesses to operate in multiple jurisdictions with a single business licence – cutting red tape while freeing up time and money.

The new Franchises Act and regulation taking effect ensure prospective business owners in British Columbia will have more information available to help them decide whether to open a franchised business.

An updated Liquor Control and Licencing Act and regulation come into force Jan. 23 that will create new opportunities for businesses, increase convenience for consumers and enhance the Province’s commitment to social responsibility.

British Columbians are benefiting from the provincial government’s continued focus on improving consumer choice and convenience, increasing flexibility and reducing red tape for liquor sales and service in B.C.  

Anyone who has waited on hold for hours while trying to navigate a phone tree or had to fill out pages upon pages of forms knows about red tape. Most people have dealt with this type of frustration, and there are countless stories of how difficult it can be to access information or register for a government service.
