At 1:55 p.m. (Pacific time) on Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2024, a test of the National Public Alerting System will occur to improve public safety in the event of an emergency.

People living in the coastal regions of British Columbia, as well as in Metro Vancouver, the Fraser Valley and parts of the Interior, can expect stormy weather and strong winds starting Tuesday, Nov. 19 and extending through Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2024.

As weather in British Columbia transitions into fall, people can expect seasonal stormy conditions and are encouraged to take steps to prepare for cooler temperatures and the increased possibility of rain, snow and flooding.

People are urged to continue to use caution and remain vigilant to prevent human-caused fires when enjoying the outdoors this Labour Day long weekend.

Water has begun to overflow the landslide blocking the Chilcotin River near Farwell Canyon.

With the assistance of external experts, B.C. government staff continue to monitor the Chilcotin River landslide 24/7, conduct aerial survey flights and gather additional technical data.

Updated modelling of the landslide across the Chilcotin River provides an improved assessment of worst-case scenario risks to people and communities from a sudden failure of the landslide structure and associated flooding.     

As active monitoring continues at the site of the Chilcotin River landslide, the River Forecast Centre (RFC) has updated its forecast for potential flooding.
