In celebration of B.C. Disability Employment Month, people with disabilities or recovering from a physical injury or mental-health challenge will receive extra help in their recovery and safe return to work thanks to $4 million in funding to the National Institute of Disability Management and Research (NIDMAR).

Premier David Eby and Harry Bains, Minister of Labour, have issued the following statement marking Labour Day:

Indigenous and local governments seeking to advance infrastructure and planning projects that support healthy communities and cleaner travel can now submit their applications to the B.C. Active Transportation Infrastructure Grants program, which opened Sept. 1, 2023.

Residents and travellers are strongly urged to use caution and remain vigilant this Labour Day long weekend as ongoing elevated drought conditions in much of British Columbia increase the potential for wildfires.

With continued fire risk in many regions, and tens of thousands of people still under evacuation order and alert, the Province is extending the provincial state of emergency until Sept. 14, 2023, to ensure public safety and support the response to B.C.’s worst-ever wildfire season.
