Students at 12 schools throughout the province will get more exercise and fresh air as part of their daily commute when the second year of the Active School Travel Pilot Program kicks off.

Students in grades 4 and 5 will learn biking skills and safety awareness at participating schools in Greater Victoria and along the South Coast as the fall session of Everyone Rides Grades 4-5 gets underway.

People in communities throughout B.C. will soon benefit from better cycling, pedestrian and other active-transportation infrastructure that will safely connect neighbourhoods to parks, schools and town centres.

Starting Sept. 1, 2021, children 12 and under will be able to “Get on Board” any BC Transit or TransLink service for free as part of the provincial government’s commitment to efficient, reliable and affordable transit for families.

The Province is providing more than $404,000 to help local governments include active transportation in their community planning.

People living on Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands are benefiting from nearly $10 million in transportation investments made to support the region during the COVID-19 pandemic.

British Columbians are encouraged to share their experiences with the province’s highways and road services to help the Government of B.C. continually improve transportation for everyone.

The Province is committing $36 million to active transportation infrastructure projects over the next three years, helping to create more liveable and sustainable communities throughout British Columbia.

The Province is planning for future improvements to Highway 1 between 264th Street and Whatcom Road, and public engagement is underway to help determine the full scope of the project.
