Meet Raven, who at 19 years of age ‘aged out’ of ministry care, having been in more than 20 foster homes since the age of four.  

A final report from the Ministry of Children and Family Development’s special advisor provides 85 recommendations to overhaul British Columbia’s Indigenous child welfare system and improve outcomes for Indigenous children and youth by changing focus from intervention and separation to strengthening families.

“Mitchel always made me feel like I was here to stay,” says Sophia. At the age of 11, she moved in with Mitchel. Before that, Sophia had been in several different foster homes and needed the long-term stability, consistency and unconditional care that are so essential in everyday life.
