Jennifer Rice, Parliamentary Secretary for Emergency Preparedness, has issued the following statement regarding National Fire Prevention Week, Oct. 7-13, 2018:

Disaster Financial Assistance (DFA) application dates for the recent landslide disaster have been expanded and are now available for British Columbians in the Thompson-Nicola Regional District – including Cache Creek, Village of Ashcroft and Bonaparte Indian Band – who may have been affected by landslides that occurred from Aug. 2-12, 2018.

Mike Farnworth, Minister of Public Safety and Solicitor General, has issued the following statement regarding assistance with this year's wildfires:

Thanks to cooler weather and progress in containing wildfires, the Government of British Columbia has decided to cancel the provincial state of emergency that currently covers the entire province.

Whatever your activities this Labour Day long weekend, remember there are wildfire crews working hard in the bush.

Emergency Management BC is asking people, who have self-evacuated to larger communities due to smoke, to consider returning home.

Many parts of British Columbia are experiencing intense fire activity this long weekend, and based on the weather outlook, this will continue for the foreseeable future.

As the Province and local authorities move from flood response to recovery, Mike Farnworth, Minister of Public Safety and Solicitor General, has amended his request for federal resources, and offered his gratitude to the federal government and provincial public safety partners for their help during the recent flooding:
