Katrine Conroy, Minister of Forests, Lands, Natural Resource Operations and Rural Development, has issued the following statement in support of the Government of Canada’s decision today to challenge the final results of the second administrative review of the U.S. anti-dumping and countervailing duty orders on softwood lumber from Canada:

Effective immediately, Diane Nicholls, British Columbia’s chief forester, has set a new allowable annual cut (AAC) level for Tree Farm Licence (TFL) 33.

The Province is immediately providing a $1-million grant to support the Village of Lytton in its economic recovery from the devastation caused by this year’s wildfire.

In line with government’s vision for forest care, the Province has introduced legislation to help build a more diverse and inclusive forest sector that works for people.

British Columbia has planted more than one billion trees since 2018, including 301 million this year.

Two community forest awards, along with $10,000 grants, have been awarded to the West Boundary Community Forest for 2020 and the Westbank First Nation for 2021.

The Province has introduced legislation that will make B.C.’s approach to forests more focused on sustainability, return more benefits to people and local communities, and position B.C. to take full advantage of future economic opportunities through long-term planning.
