Fifty-six people experiencing or at risk of homelessness in Victoria are moving into new homes with support services.

Six-month progress updates from the first 10 priority communities selected for housing targets by the Province show that more than 4,000 net new homes have been built for people and more are coming as the second set of targets are released.

Twenty-eight new transitional homes with supports will soon be available for people leaving the correctional system as construction gets underway on a mixed-use building in Victoria.

New regulations are in effect to standardize and improve community planning in the province and make it easier to get more homes for people built faster.

Thirty-eight local governments will soon receive a grant to create more efficient development approvals processes. 

The final legislative session for the 42nd parliament delivered action to help people in B.C. with new laws and measures aimed at easing cost-of-living pressures, delivering more homes for people with middle incomes and improving public health care.

Changes to the Manufactured Home Park Tenancy Regulation, which establishes park rules, will make life easier for manufactured home residents. 

As part of the Province’s commitment to build more homes for people, the next set of priority communities has been identified to receive housing targets for the next five years.

Strata owners will soon have more certainty and consistency around the repair and maintenance of common property with new regulations to close a loophole that allowed strata corporations to indefinitely defer depreciation reports.
