An independent panel has been appointed to review and provide recommendations for potential amendments to the Labour Relations Code (LRC).

New rules to enhance safety for workers doing asbestos removal, transportation and disposal will come into effect on Jan. 1, 2024.

Harry Bains, Minister of Labour, has issued the following statement in regard to the Fraser Valley transit labour dispute: 

Feedback gathered through the Province’s public engagement about app-based ride-hailing and food-delivery work has been compiled into a “what we heard” report.

The Province has protected jobs and workers impacted by COVID-19 with an online variance application that simplified the process to extend temporary layoffs, resulting in the approval of more than 500 variances that protect more than 9,100 jobs across a variety of economic sectors.

Following conversations with business and worker representatives, the Province of British Columbia has extended the temporary layoffs provisions to a maximum of 24 weeks expiring on Aug. 30, 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Child care providers and parents can continue to count on funding from the Province to support the ongoing operations of child care centres throughout British Columbia.

As British Columbia prepares to enter Phase 2 of its economic restart plan, the Province welcomes the release of the initial set of WorkSafeBC guidelines that will help businesses and organizations develop their plans to reopen safely in the coming days and weeks.

To ease financial hardship on businesses and to keep employees connected with their jobs during the COVID-19 pandemic, government has extended the temporary layoff period to 16 weeks for COVID-19 related reasons.
