Unregulated toxic drugs claimed the lives of 182 people in April 2024 according to preliminary data from the BC Coroners Service.

New funding for B.C.’s Path Forward Community Fund will support Indigenous-led solutions to violence against women, girls and 2SLGBTQIA+ people, and promote community safety, capacity building and self determination in addressing systemic causes of gender-based violence.

Updated data from the BC Coroners Service reflects the continued deadly risks posed by the toxic-drug supply in the province.

The deaths of 188 people in provincial and federal correctional facilities were reported to the BC Coroners Service between Jan. 1, 2013, and Dec. 31, 2023.

People in British Columbia will benefit from projects working to advance community safety, address gender-based violence and support Indigenous healing through funding from the civil forfeiture grant program.

A coroner’s inquest into the death of Jaime Diane Hope will begin at 9:30 a.m. on June 17, 2024, at the Dawson Creek Law Courts (1201 103 Ave.).
