The Province has proclaimed May 20, 2016, as B.C.’s third Aboriginal Social Enterprise Day to celebrate the accomplishments of Aboriginal social enterprises and their contributions to the vitality of British Columbia and the strength and resilience of Aboriginal communities.

Government is supporting B.C. social enterprises that make a positive impact as they pursue social, cultural and environmental goals in communities throughout the province.

Government is taking action to ensure that everyone who holds a BC Bus Pass will continue to have access to public transit systems across the province now that TransLink is closing its fare gates.

To create equity in the system the Province is investing $170 million over the next three years to ensure about 100,000 people on disability assistance in B.C. will receive a rate increase of up to $77 a month as of Sept. 1, 2016.

Social Development and Social Innovation Minister Michelle Stilwell introduced legislation that will make it easier for some people with disabilities to receive disability assistance.

More than 1,300 single parents on income and disability assistance are participating in the provincial government’s Single Parent Employment Initiative launched on Sept. 1.
