Farmers on Vancouver Island and the Southern Gulf Islands will have more support to adapt to climate change following the development of the Vancouver Island Adaptation Strategies plan.

With weather conditions expected to remain warm and dry in the coming week, dropping water levels have prompted the Province to announce a Level 3 drought rating for Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands.

The Ministry of Agriculture brought the classroom to the field by offering farmers and ranchers around the province the opportunity to attend a variety of agriculture-related learning events with support from the governments of Canada and British Columbia. 

Over 2,000 range agreement holders in British Columbia can now use an online system called MyRangeBC to more easily create, update and manage their range use plans.

New regional adaptation strategies are being developed to help Kootenay and Boundary agricultural producers prepare for climate change.

Despite rainfall over the past few weeks, streamflows in the central and northern regions of British Columbia are well below normal and continue to decline.
