From Vancouver Island to Haida Gwaii, adult learners throughout the province will get help to improve their literacy and numeracy skills, thanks to projects funded through the Community Adult Literacy Program.

British Columbians who want to work in high-demand jobs in the health-care sector have more opportunities to get the training they need, thanks to continued investments in health education at public post-secondary institutions.

British Columbia continues to have a world-class education system and this year government has taken steps to make it even better.

Through the Ministry of Advanced Education's Nurses Education Bursary, 190 students in nursing programs across British Columbia will receive a total of $380,000 in bursaries this fall.

In support of government's 2011 throne speech commitment to safer schools, the Province has posted a Request for Proposals (RFP) to provide extensive face-to-face training within school districts, develop website content and provide initial support to district teams on serious incidents within districts.

Vulnerable students, small school districts, and remote and rural schools will benefit from increased funding consistency and support as a result of changes to the allocation of school district operating grants.

Overall school district operating grants and average per-pupil funding have increased again this year as B.C. continues to provide record funding levels for K-12 education.
