In response to UBCM Resolution C-27, Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations Minister Steve Thomson re-affirmed government’s commitment to Vancouver Island’s old growth forests and stated there was no need to cease logging.

British Columbians are invited to review and comment on amended old growth management areas for the San Josef Landscape Unit on northwestern Vancouver Island until Aug. 29, 2016.

The B.C. government has established 6,482 old growth management areas (OGMAs) under the Oil and Gas Activities Act.

Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations Minister Steve Thomson has announced the reappointment of William B. McGill as vice-chair and Ralph Archibald as part-time board member of the Forest Practices Board for terms of two years each.

Effective immediately, the allowable annual cut for Canfor’s Tree Farm Licence 48 near Chetwynd will be set at 1,550,000 cubic metres for five years, and then 871,000 cubic metres for the following five years.
