People enjoying beautiful British Columbia this Canada Day long weekend are strongly urged to use caution and be prepared as warm weather and drought conditions increase wildfire risk in many areas of the province.

Those who commit offences that harm wildlife and fish, including illegal hunting and angling, will soon face higher fines.

A major expansion of Klinse-za Park, located west of Chetwynd and Hudson’s Hope in northeastern B.C., will better protect sacred sites and wildlife habitat, and contribute to the goal of protecting 30% of lands in B.C. by 2030.

British Columbia’s natural environment will be better protected with stronger enforcement to stop people from committing environmental crimes in provincial parks, protected areas and ecological reserves.

Newly introduced legislation will expand B.C.’s parks and protected areas, strengthen biodiversity conservation and provide more opportunities for people to access outdoor recreation.

Reservations are now available at three popular BC Parks backcountry campgrounds to help better plan camping trips.
