People of all ages and abilities across northern B.C. will have more opportunities to get involved in fun, community-based sport programs during the coming year through the joint federal-provincial BC Sport Participation Program (BCSPP).

The federal and provincial governments have joined with the Tŝilhqot’in National Government and the six Tŝilhqot’in communities to celebrate the signing of the Gwets’en Nilt’i Pathway Agreement (“Towards it, We are Striving”), a historic reconciliation agreement to support Tŝilhqot’in self-determination, five years after the landmark judgment of the Supreme Court of Canada in the Tŝilhqot’in Nation Decision. 

Summer 2019 marks the first anniversary of the Hubulhsooninats’Uhoot’alh: Foundation Framework Agreement between the Southern Dakelh Nation Alliance (SDNA) and the Province of British Columbia.

Members of the public are being reminded to be careful when travelling on Crown land in the Cariboo where wildfires occurred in 2017 and 2018, especially in areas where fireguards were established to help fight those fires.

Wildfire rehabilitation and recovery activities are ongoing in the Cariboo region as staff from the Ministry of Forests, Lands, Natural Resource Operations and Rural Development and contractors repair damage to landscapes burned during the 2017 and 2018 wildfire seasons.

Effective at noon on Monday, July 29, 2019, Category 2 open fires will be prohibited throughout the Cariboo Fire Centre to help prevent human-caused wildfires and protect public safety.  

As part of wildfire recovery efforts following the 2018 wildfires in the Cariboo and West Coast natural resource regions, the Province is supporting local First Nations as they monitor the season’s morel harvest.

The business plan for a redeveloped and state-of-the-art Cariboo Memorial hospital has been completed and officially approved on time and on schedule.

The provincial government is accepting public input in shaping an Interior forest sector that will innovate, create jobs and support communities for generations to come.

The B.C. government has allocated another $342,378 in Community Resiliency Investment program grants to five local governments and First Nations communities in the Cariboo Fire Centre to help support wildfire risk reduction projects.
