Effective at noon on Thursday, Sept. 10, 2015, campfires will once again be allowed throughout the Cariboo Fire Centre’s jurisdiction. However, the burning of waste or slash piles is still prohibited.

On the August 29-30 weekend, the BC Wildfire Service responded to four new human-caused wildfires in the Cariboo Fire Centre. One of those wildfires was sparked by an abandoned campfire.

The BC Wildfire Service is asking the public to be extra cautious with any outdoor activities in the Cariboo Fire Centre this weekend, due to dry conditions and high winds.

The BC Wildfire Service is responding to a 12-hectare wildfire at the south end of Chilko Lake within Ts’ilʔos Provincial Park, about 125 kilometres southwest of Alexis Creek.

The BC Wildfire Service has received reports of people not complying with the partial campfire ban in the Cariboo Fire Centre.

Effective at noon on Monday, July 27, 2015, campfires will once again be allowed east of the Fraser River within the Cariboo Fire Centre’s jurisdiction.

Although campfires are currently allowed in some areas and municipalities in northern B.C., the BC Wildfire Service is reminding the public that campfires are still prohibited throughout the Cariboo Fire Centre’s jurisdiction.
