The current spell of hot, dry weather has resulted in increased fire danger ratings throughout the Cariboo Fire Centre. The majority of the Cariboo Fire Centre is currently or soon expected to be rated “extreme”.

BC Wildfire Service personnel are responding to wildfires that were started by recent lightning activity in the Cariboo Fire Centre.

Effective at noon Pacific Time on Thursday, July 2, 2015, Category 2 and Category 3 open fires will be prohibited throughout the Cariboo Fire Centre to help prevent human-caused wildfires and protect public safety.

Residents of Horsefly, Likely, and neighbouring communities are advised that the Horsefly-Likely Forest Service Road (Ditch Road) will be open to local traffic, effective 5:00 p.m., June 12, 2015.

Despite the change in weather conditions, the Wildfire Management Branch urges the public to use caution when participating in recreational activities in the backcountry or using any open flame.

Over the Victoria Day holiday weekend, Wildfire Management Branch crews from the Cariboo Fire Centre responded to nine new wildfires. Fire suppression efforts also continued on the Pelican Lake fire.

Residents of Horsefly, Likely and neighbouring communities are reminded that, due to ongoing site rehabilitation of Hazeltine Creek, the Horsefly-Likely Forest Service Road (Ditch Road) remains closed to all unauthorized persons and vehicle traffic until further notice.
